On the needles today.

I bought this yarn from eBay some months ago. I was rather disappointed when it arrived as I thought the colours cheap and garish but now I'm knitting it up I love it. The colours are exotic and tropical, I wish I had given the socks more thought and hadn't just started a cast on and see what you get pair. I suppose I could pull them out and start again but I hate doing that and know I would get sick of them and would have trouble finishing them.

What would I have done differently? Nothing much, I think the yarn stands up on its own so, I would leave out the lacy bit at the top and just knit a plain simple sock.

Here's what I'm doing any way :
  • Needles - size 2.5mm dpns, I using five Clover Bamboo
  • Yarn - Opal Hagebutte, not sure of the colour as I've lost the label.
  • Cast on 72 sts (I used the twisted German method which I learned last week)
  • Purl 3 rows
  • Knit 1 row
  • Knit 2 purl 2 rib for 16 rows
  • Knit 1 row
  • Purl 3 rows
  • Knit 3 rows
  • Pattern - Diamond and Eyelet Pattern from Harmony Vol 2, pg 51. One complete pattern sequence then end on row 4
  • Knit 21 rows
  • Decrease 1 st at each end of the next row and the following 6th, 12th and 18th row (64 sts remain)
  • Square heel on 32 sts. I picked up 18 sts for the gusset.
I haven't decided which toe to knit yet.

  1. Gorgeous Yarn! I've used that too. I know what you mean about not needing the lace.
